Promoting reading
One of the biggest aims of the Erlangen Library is to familiarise the children with literature and reading at an early stage. For the pedagogic work in nursery, elementary and secondary schools, the public library offers a variety of possibilities to support teachers with - for example - guided tours for classes and groups or book boxes on certain topics.
Media boxes
We arrange media boxes on any desired topic upon request. Please contact us for early reservations at 09131/86157
Guided tours for day care centres and classes up to grade 6
The guided tours show in a playful way
-
what the children’s library has to offer
-
how the children’s library is set up in order to directly find all the media you are looking for
-
how easy it is to sign up in order to be able to borrow the media
Please contact us in time (approx. 2-3 weeks) before the desired date of the guided tour (09131/861527)
Lesestart – „Reading start“ – The reading initiative in Germany
Libraries play an important role in the linguistic development of children and can look back on a long tradition of projects and activities. This is why they are perfect partners for the campaign “Lesestart – Reading start – the reading initiative in Germany”.
In June 2008, the biggest national campaign for little children was launched in order to promote reading. The idea is: Between June 2008 and May 2010, 500,000 families will receive an age-based and free “Lesestart” kit within the child health check U6 at your paediatrician. These kits include, amongst others, a Ravensburger picture book, a pedagogic handbook on how to read to children and a leaflet with current book recommendations by the magazine “Eltern”. In doing so, the initiators intend to strengthen the linguistic development of the youngest ones, to give them playfully an idea on how exciting the world of books is and to show parents how much pleasure it is to read together.
The “reading socialisation ” that begins with “Lesestart” in families with little children continues at libraries, at places where books of all kinds and reading are at home. This is where parents and their children can browse through books as long as they wish, can find new stimulation and look for advice.
